... and it was amazing. The auction winners have been notified and, as of today, the auction has raised $8500 for libraries and literacy in Uganda. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who donated items, all who bid and all who won.

Now here's some really exciting news.

We not only met our goal for LIBRARIES FOR LIFE - PEACE CORPS UGANDA but we're joining forces with another Books for Africa Uganda project called MORE THAN PAGES. Together we have the necessary funding to now send a 40 FOOT CONTAINER of books to Uganda. That's right - double what we previously planned. I am overjoyed and as always so, so grateful for the generous support of my family and friends. This certainly is a blessed holiday season!

How do I bid?

You need to be 18 or older to bid.
Post your bid WITH YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS in the comment section of the item you wish to bid on. Bids without E-MAIL ADDRESSES WILL BE INVALID.
The minimum bid for all items is $10 U.S. and only increasing bids will be accepted.
Check the time/date stamp of your bid to verify that it is within auction dates and times. Remember, I live in Colorado so all times are Mountain Time (MST).
You MUST include your email address in your bid so I can contact you if you win.
If you are bidding on a critique, the manuscript you will be submitting must be ready to go within 48-hours of winning unless otherwise stated in the item description.

What if I win?

Winners will need to pay for their item via credit card or check. Instructions for payment will be emailed to the winner when the auction is officially closed.
I will contact all winners, using the provided e-mail address, by November 21st.
Payment must be received by November 29th or the prize will go to the next bidder.
If you win a critique, I will contact you with instructions after your payment is received. Please do not contact your critiquer directly.

Dear Friends,

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT- while visibly very American - was in a large part inspired by the children of Uganda, many of whom are orphaned by AIDS while others have been displaced due to past civil war. My family has developed strong connections to that country and its children over the past 6 years.

To celebrate the release of the book and honor those beautiful children, I decided to hold this online auction to benefit literacy in Africa and a library at Musana Children's Home in Iganga, Uganda where I worked last summer.

I'm coordinating this effort with the volunteers for an amazing Peace Corps project called Libraries for Life - which is providing books for libraries in designated Ugandan schools. The project is being administered by, not only the Peace Corps, but also the Books for Africa organization. And Musana has been designated as one of the recipient libraries.

Please know that each and every day I continue to support public libraries, school libraries and literacy programs here in the U.S. But this auction will reach across the ocean to benefit efforts abroad.

I know all of you, as caring and generous as you are, have your own special passions and causes. So I don't want you to feel any pressure here, especially during such difficult economic times. But if, by chance, this project of mine touches you in any way, I hope you can participate in some way - big or small.
